Memorable Books

Posted on

Ever since 5th grade when my brothers hogged the television in our tiny apartment, my older sister and I would read books to entertain ourselves. This will be a little like a PSA, in that, reading has really helped me in my reading comprehension and learning English. Reading past writings, these posts and even sentences written 10 seconds ago aren’t grammatically correct, not lyrical enough or the thoughts are unrelated. But if I say so myself, and I do, I’m doing well for someone who didn’t speak, read or write English for almost half her life

The point I’m getting here is that in between 5th grade and middle school where I did most of my reading, there are some wonderful books that are memorable and would always be my favorite.

Some include:
Scribbler of Dreams by Mary E. Pearson
This book was and still is a story that I relate to very well since like all families, my family has had tension and conflict that I saw paralleled to this story. And reading this comforted me because it lets me know there are other families that are wacky with a few skeletons in the closet.

One Night by Margaret Wild
I love, love this book. It’s written in poetry and just very beautiful with a wonderful story that’s heartwarming and stark reality. The friend with the trench coat, whose name I’ve forgotten, reminded me of Edgar Allan Poe and The Raven.

Spirited Window by Joyce Sweeney
This is an easy read about discovering your roots, family ties with a touch of romance.

They Loved To Laugh by Kathryn Worth, Marguerite DeAngeli (Illustrator)
One of my most favorite book of all times. All the characters are so endearing and lovable that I couldn’t help but cry when they cried, and laugh when they laughed. I searched on ebay a few years back, and Kathryn Worth’s other books were over $100s because they were all out of print but when I checked a few days ago, there weren’t even any books other than They Love To Laugh listed for sale 😦

Summers at Castle Auburn by Sharon Shinn
Written by on of my favorite authors and this book is the one that introduced me to her. I’ve read this book maybe 3-4 times over already.

Archangel by Sharon Shinn
Let’s just say, I love books with a hint of romance mixed in with the big story.

The Pigman by Paul Zindel
This was one of the reading for English in middle school and I ended up liking it a lot. I’ve also read other book by Paul Zindel and they’re also fantastic books.

More books sharing to come…
